KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID
Our KISS HB binding is one of the most exciting and innovative systems to come along in a very long time. There have been two main design goals with the KISS binding.
The first, to simplify the steps at changeover. The entire binding remains on the board at all times. No pulling parts off to put into your pack. No leaving them behind. No dealing with snow and ice. Take the two sides apart, push the steel bails away from the edges, and add the skins at the bottom. Rip the skins off, pull the steel bails into position and click the two sides together at the top, and you're done.
The steel bails are adjusted to boot fit using thumb nuts (no tools) in seconds, while the steel wire shape allows for more lateral boot roll than most HB binding systems. The pucks have 3° of canting AND the top surface is curved to enhance boot roll.
The second goal, was to eliminate the "robotic" feel of hard boots. Anyone using HB knows the significant advantages in the climbs, where we spend 90% of our day, but most would agree that they're "not quite as good" as soft boots riding down. It's a worthwhile trade off we all make.
To this end, we offer the binding with Dynema (replacing the stainless bails). Dynema has a break strength almost double that of steel, and a stretch ratio of almost half. The laterally flexible nature of the Dynema allows the boot to rock on the canted and curved surface of the binding, emulating the feel of a soft boot, removing that robotic lateral feel.
The amount of boot roll can be regulated by moving the bail guides towards the board centre for more lateral roll, and towards the outer edge for less lateral roll. You can increase roll between your feet by moving the outer guides inwards and reduce roll towards the ends by moving the inner guides out. The locking cam tucks under a bungee for the climb. You secure the Dynema by pinching it with set screws in a zig-zag shape within the binding guides.
The binding overlaps the centreline of the board preventing any lateral scissoring, while the three supplied (one attaches to the heel riser inserts between the feet) prevent the two sides from opening. You won't see any difference in board stability between our binding system, and other traditional HB systems.
Included with the Binding:
4 Base plates including the bail guides with mounting hardware. 2 toe and 2 heel stainless wires with hardware. 4 Dynema Bails. 2 boot locking cams. 2 cam splitlocks and 1 heel riser pattern splitlock, with all hardware.
Dynema Binding weight is just under 300g per full binding. Steel bails add 80g per foot.
Final prototype shown. There are minor changes in production.
Soul Stick Zen splitboards have two additional split clip locks, so an additional set of split clips should be purchased*
