Warranty Information

NOTE: In keeping with an industry drive to be more sustainable, we have significantly reduced the amount of packaging we use on our kayaks (although the packaging is still more than we'd like on adult boats, and a double bag for kids boats). However, it is possible that your kayak could be delivered to you with some scratches and scuffing. These are NO LONGER covered under warranty.
You're going to do worse the first time you use it anyway, so we all have to take a hit for the environment.
.
If your kayak is delivered with structural damage (which over packaging doesn't resolve anyway) then of course we will take care of you.
.

We stand behind our products. All our products are guaranteed for workmanship and defects. The specific guarantee depends on the product in question.

Premium Plastic Kayaks:

Our plastic kayaks and boards are LIFETIME guaranteed to be free of DEFECTS in manufacturing. Understand that because you broke a boat does not mean it was defective - you could simply have stressed the plastic or parts beyond their physical capacity to withstand the forces applied. But if it was indeed defective, for as long as the original owner owns the boat, we will warranty it.

This lifetime warranty is part of what you're getting when you buy one of our premium products. The kayaks and boards are made to exacting standards, and if your kayak or board does not meet these standards, we will repair or replace the it, at our discretion. Most warranty claims happen within the first few days or weeks of the products use, as any defective product is most likely to fail almost immediately. However, defects like a boat being unusually thin in an area could take time to show up, which is why the warranty is for as long as the original owner has the boat. You must register your boat with us within 30 days of purchase to activate the warranty, and the lifetime warranty is for the original owner only.

Note that Yellow boats are intentionally made lighter (easier to carry and more enjoyable to paddle), and are thus more likely to break due to stresses beyond the physical capability of the material to withstand the impact or wear. This is not a defect - you simply wore your boat out, or broke it.

An industry standard 1yr warranty applies to all boats, regardless of whether you're the original owner or not, for a period of 1 year from the date of manufacture.

There is no "warranty of correctness". Just because you don't like the way the boat handles, or the way the outfitting feels or works, does not mean it's defective. Our boats are intentionally designed to handle and feel unlike everything else on the market, be it the hull design, or the outfitting. We believe this makes them better. However, it's quite possible you may disagree. That does not make the product defective, and as such, there is no warranty because you "dislike it". Our bet is, if you give it time... you will come to love it for the same reason so many other do.

Premium kayaks:

The SHELLS are guaranteed for as long as the original owner has the boat: the boats lifetime with you. The internal fittings are guaranteed for a period of 24 months from the date of manufacture.  This guarantee is against defects only (just because the kayak or board is broken, or the internals have been ripped apart, does not mean it was defective – it’s quite possible that you simply broke it - we're stating clearly here  the industry standard).

Closeouts, demos's and discontinued outfitting sales:

Due to being a closeout sale, all sales are final, and boats are sold "as is", with no guarantee or warrantee. All sales of the above carry a 30 day grace period for inspection to identify any significant defects that render the boat unuseable. After this inspection period, there is no manufacturer warranty.

Conditions:

If you modify your kayak in any way, this could void the warranty, if the kayak is broken or deforms in the area that was modified, or as a result of that modification.

It is the responsibility of the customer to send to Soul Waterman the defective kayak or board for assessment. Soul Waterman in turn takes full responsibility in returning the repaired or replaced product to the customer. This warranty is not a warranty of correctness, only of defects in manufacturing.

The warranty is for repair or replacement only, at our discretion, and no kayaks or boards are refunded due to defects, as is the industry standard.

Epoxy Kayaks and Surf/SUP Boards:

The running gag is that epoxy boards are guaranteed for 30 seconds or 30 feet, whichever comes first. This is because of the nature of the construction of an epoxy board – they are comparatively fragile, and as such are easy to damage (compared to plastic). However, we do stand behind the product, and it is imperative that you inspect your board as soon as you get it. If there are any defects, we will repair or replace your board for you. However, once the board has been used, because of the nature and ease with which an epoxy board can be damaged, there are no warranties, implied or otherwise. In the case of a warranty claim, it is the responsibility of the customer to send to Soul Waterman the defective board for assessment. Soul Waterman in turn takes full responsibility in returning the repaired or replaced product to the customer

Snowboards:

Our snowboards have a lifetime warranty against defects in manufacture. This is to the original owner, and does not include rock damage, inserts punching through (using long screws), or impact of any kind.

The board under claim should be returned to the store where it was purchased, or directly to Soul Stick at the customer expense. If it indeed a warranty, the board will be repaired or replaced, at the discretion of Soul Stick, and the repaired/new board shipped back to the customer at the expense of Soul Stick.

Composite construction Disclaimer:

The process we have developed for making one-off, one piece (no seams) completely custom kayaks and boards is truly amazing. The construction method used is in many way different from other composite constructions methods, and as a result there may be differences in what you're accustomed to seeing. These may include, but are not limited to 1) The inside of the boat appearing rough in places, a result of the boats being made one piece) 2) We use paint, not gel coat, on the outside because of the way the molds work, and the paints tend to have less adherence than gel coats. As a result, some chipping may occur. Your boat is not defective, it's simply the nature of the beast. 3) Some roughness and/or unevenness on the underside of the deck where the cockpit is laminated is normal (unlike a 2pc kayak, we do not have visual access to this during the cockpit lamination process and so it is impossible to see everything under there). 4) Because we cannot make the boats light enough using foam cores (due to the one piece construction process) expect more flex than you're accustomed to seeing until the boat is reinforced inside with walls or another structural bracing system.
Shipping:
It is the expense of the customer to ship the "claimed" warranty kayak or sup to Soul waterman for inspection. Should the kayak or sup be found to be faulty, Soul Waterman will cover all shipping expenses of the repaired or replaced kayak or sup back to the customer. If the kayak is deemed not to be a warranty, it is the customers expense to have the kayak or sup returned (or alternately, should the customer wish, we can destroy the kayak).
Upgrades to our product:
Soul Waterman reserves the right to upgrade, adapt or substitute any part of the product in part or in whole, without prior warning, for any reason, without any obligation to replace models that are in the field, or have already been manufactured to prior standards.
